Issue description
The game is not saved. I tried quick save and save from game menu. At the same time, in the folder with the game saves ( C:\Users\Станислав\Saved Games\Arx Libertatis ) the “crashes” and “save” folders appeared. The «save0000» - «save0003» folders appeared in the save folder, but they are empty. The “crashes” folder is also empty. There are no other files and folders (without arx-libertatis-1.2-dev-2018-11-20, the arx.log and cfg files are also created in the folder). After that, I copied the old save files from Arx Libertatis, but the game does not see them. Arx Libertatis was installed on the Steam version of the game. My operating system is Windows 10. This happens if I install arx-libertatis-1.2-dev-2018-11-20, as well as all versions prior to arx-libertatis-1.2-dev-2018-08-13. When installing arx-libertatis-1.2-dev-2018-08-13 - the save works, but not correctly. In this version, a screenshot is not created and the name of the save is not changed (the new name is displayed if you overwrite it). I also enclose logs from the game with arx-libertatis-1.2-dev-2018-08-13.

Steps to reproduce this issue
Install Steam Install Arx Fatalis Install arx-libertatis-1.1.2-win-x64.exe Copy files from the archive “arx-libertatis-1.2-dev-2018-11-20-windows.zip” to the folder of the game “Arx Libertatis” ( E:\Games\Arx Libertatis ). Run the game ( E:\Games\Arx Libertatis\ arx.exe ). (I also tried to run as administrator, the result is the same) Start a new game. Try to save the game.

Thanks for the report. So if I understood you correctly,

arx-libertatis-1.2-dev-2018-08-12
  • creates directories
  • doesn't write log
  • doesn't write save files

arx-libertatis-1.2-dev-2018-08-13
  • creates directories
  • successfully writes log
  • successfully writes save files
  • doesn't save screenshots for saves (the log has errors for this)

arx-libertatis-1.2-dev-2018-10-16
  • creates directories
  • doesn't write log
  • doesn't write save files

arx-libertatis-1.2-dev-2018-10-31
  • creates directories
  • doesn't write log
  • doesn't write save files

arx-libertatis-1.2-dev-2018-11-20
  • creates directories
  • doesn't write log
  • doesn't write save files (there are errors in the console screenshot)

Is this correct?

To rule out Unicode filename issues, can you use the --data-dir command-line option for arx.exe to point to a directory whose path contains only ASCII characters? E.g. --data-dir C:\Arx assuming your user can write there.

The name not updating in the UI was a bug that was fixed in 1.2-dev-2018-10-16.

Ok I can see why writing the screenshots fails but that doesn't explain why writing saves worked only in 1.2-dev-2018-08-13.

Hello. Many thanks for solving this problem! Sorry I could not help you. I just did not know that the messages were here. I visited the site a couple of days, then stopped - because of the first comments I received notifications by mail. I thought there would be notifications about the new comment too. But they were not (perhaps they got into spam, I checked that they are not there now). Yesterday, updates came to my Ubuntu, there was a game among them. Today I went to Windows to check the update. Seeing that everything works came here. Thanks again!
